Bridge is based in the East Village—across the East River from Long Island City where Amazon planned to get $3 billion in government tax breaks to build a new office. Thanks to Jim Power the Mosaic Man for literally cementing Bridge into the history books. You can see Jim’s artwork (and Bridge’s mosaic) on St. Marks in the East Village.
And thanks to Matt for hamming it up with me. :)

Artists are an important part of local business. Today in the East Village I spotted Lee Erickson who is a local New York City water color painter. He's got some great pieces including 5th Ave. and Pete's Tavern on Irving Place. Prices range around $400. He also does commission work. Lee Erickson: 917-923-8832
Ps- ask him about his days as a deep sea diver

At the coffee shop this morning, we noticed this guide to local businesses here in the East Village. Created by the East Village Community Coalition, the little booklet has maps and lists neat spots including stores dedicated to sake and yarn (...not the same location!).
Shopping local at Annie Sloan paint shop in the East Village. Don't let the name fool ya. Lots of neat, re-purposed stuff in there including these bottle caps turned into magnets. Shop manager was super helpful and knowledgable.
Annie Sloan is at 122 East 7th St. Between 1st and 2nd ave., NYC

As a supporter of local businesses, we like to give a shout out to those local artists like Jim Power. For over 20 years Jim has been decorating East Village lampposts with tile dedications to local bars, shops, personalities, and events.
Interesting story: Saddam Hussien's looted Wedgwood plates end up in the East Village, then are repatriated with help of State Department to Iraqi people.
